​Cognition​, a US-based company, has introduced the world’s FIRST AI software engineer called ​Devin​.

This AI is proficient in writing, debugging, and deploying code to develop websites. According to its creators, competitive coder Scott Wu and his team, Devin’s coding capabilities exceed those of current cutting-edge LLMs such as GPT-4 and Gemini.

As of the announcement, here are the key capabilities we know about Devin:

• Identifying, debugging and fixing code issues

According to the SWE-Bench coding benchmark; a dataset introduced that evaluates the ability of large language models (LLMs) to resolve real-world software engineering issues, Devin was able to correctly resolve 13.86% of real-world GitHub issues unassisted, outperforming other AI models like GPT-4 and Claude.

Devin operates via a chatbot-style interface where users provide natural language prompts. It then creates a step-by-step plan, writes code, fixes issues, tests, and reports progress in real-time while allowing human oversight.
